In the new season of the Baltic Highway Championship, Riga will host two of the five stages / Article

The first round of the championship will take place on the 5th-7th. in May in Pärnu, Estonia, and a month later in June the next race will take place in Riga. Andis Meilands, the organizer of the Baltic Championship, expects that the season will be very exciting in all classes.

“We are glad that we are continuing our cooperation with the North European “Porsche GT3 CUP” series and will host this series in our competitions in June in Riga and in August in Pärnu. Various surprises will be expected in both Riga races – the spectators will have something to see from the true essence of highway sports,” said Meilands.

Unpredictable results and uncompromising battles characterize the most competitive BMW 325 Cup class in Baltic motorsport. Valters Zviedris and Karolis Jovaiša, the champions of the past two years, will not start in the upcoming season, but the organizers expect no less than 30 participants in each stage of the competition.

Athletes are actively preparing in the garages and are ready to go out on the track as soon as the weather conditions allow.

In the most budget-friendly “BMW 116 Trophy” class, an increase is expected with participants from Lithuania and Estonia, proving that the idea of uniform technical regulations and a minimum budget for motorsport is the right solution.

Organizers also expect an increase in the number of participants in the six-hour endurance race, where 2-5 riders have the opportunity to combine their individual budgets and participate together under one team banner. Historically, Lithuanians dominate this competition, but in 2023 new Latvian teams are also expected.

Ikars Putniņš, the representative of the “NSM Racing” team, emphasized that the six-hour endurance race is a great way for like-minded people, friends, or in his case – brothers to unite in one team.

The second stage of the Baltic Championship “DeWALT Grand Prix” will be the first competition of the season in Latvia. From June 9 to 11, viewers will have access to a wide and varied program – starting with the usual classes of the Baltic Highway Championship, which will be supplemented by the “NEZ Porsche Sprint Challenge” series with at least 15 participants from Finland, Lithuania, Estonia and, hopefully, Latvia. After a five-year hiatus, “Formula Junior”, the series of historic formulas, which gathers participants from all over the world, will return.

On the other hand, the final competition of the Northern European “Legends” cars will take place in Riga from September 22 to 24.

where Finnish and Swedish athletes, who are the fastest in this class in the world, will meet on a neutral race track. “Legends” cars have already won the sympathy of local spectators after their visits to the Biķernieki circuit.

The Baltic Motorway Championship unites the national championships of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia under one racing series flag, gathering a significant number of participants from the Baltic countries and Finland. In the competition, you can start with different cars prepared for sports in several qualifying classes.
