Coach Uwe Krupp is relieved to be able to play with his Kölner Haie next Sunday in the home arena against the Adler Mannheim in the playoff quarter-finals of the German Ice Hockey League. Because of a planned concert by pop singer Helene Fischer, the Haie had to play the sixth quarterfinals at their Rhenish rivals in Krefeld, of all places. Due to an injury to the singer, the concert is canceled and the game is now taking place in Cologne.

“Of course it’s easier and better for all of us to play here in Cologne and not have to move,” said Krupp on Tuesday after his Haie’s clear 7-3 defeat of Mannheim. This puts it 2-2 on wins in the best-of-seven series, where four wins are required to advance. It is also clear that there will definitely be a sixth game on Sunday (2 p.m.). Game five will take place again in Mannheim on Friday (7:30 p.m./both MagentaSport).

In addition to the spectacle on the ice, Krupp also praised the atmosphere so far. “That’s also something that makes the series special: there’s a great atmosphere in Cologne and Mannheim. The fans also see top ice hockey,” said Krupp. On Tuesday there were again over 17,000 spectators in the hall. The capacity of the arena in Krefeld is less than half.
