Dhe Swedish soccer superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic has become the oldest goalscorer in Italy’s Serie A. Ibrahimovic converted a penalty in added time in the first half of AC Milan’s visit to Udinese Calcio to make it 1-1, replacing Alessandro Costacurta at the age of 41 years and 166 days. Costacurta also scored for Milan in May 2007 at the age of 41 years and 25 days.
“Ibra, a fashion that never goes away,” Gazzetta dello Sport celebrated the Swede, who wore a Milan jersey for the 163rd time. “Zlatan, a bitter record! Ibrahimovic is back in action as a regular after 14 months and also becomes the oldest captain in Milan history,” wrote Corriere dello Sport. “Ibra inspires with his penalty, but his goal is not enough to keep Milan afloat,” said Tuttosport. Udinese ultimately won the game 3-1.
“Milan is devastating, Ibra alone is not enough to save the Rossoneri,” wrote the Gazzetta. “It’s not healthy to use someone over 40 as a regular player,” criticized the newspaper.
Ibrahimovic only made his comeback at the end of February after a nine-month break due to a knee injury. The veteran star was also called up by national coach Janne Andersson for the start of the European Championship qualifiers with games against Belgium and Azerbaijan on March 24th and 27th.
