“I want to show that everything is possible”

Bayern Munich star Daley Blind wants to be a role model for people with heart disease. “I want to show that everything is possible – beyond sport: Even a heart condition does not necessarily mean that you are forced to stop doing what you like to do. I can even continue to live my dream of becoming a professional footballer,” said the 32-year-old old Dutchmen to the club magazine 51.

You don’t have to “sit at home all day because you’re afraid that you can’t do anything because of your medical situation,” Blind continued. The national player has been playing with a defibrillator since 2019 after a myocarditis.

At first, according to Blind, “he was still very focused on myself, you have to process that first and find your own personal path”. But even during rehab he noticed “how many people are concerned with this topic. Some people don’t dare to leave the house or are afraid to go back to their job, and I think if you push yourself, then there’s so much more possible.”

He hopes, Blind emphasized, “I can be a little inspiration for one or the other, and I want to convey to children and all people that it’s always worth never giving up, setting goals – and living for them.”
