The UNAM Pumas deepened their crisis with the resignation this Monday of the president and sports vice president, Leopoldo Silva and Miguel Mejía Barón, respectively, which were not accepted by the rector of the highest university, Enrique Graue.
The Pedregal team was shaken on Sunday after a new setback, this time against Tuzos del Pachuca (0-2), which sparked anger in the stands and when the players headed for the dressing room with defeat on their backs, they were attacked with insults and they threw some objects like glasses with liquids at them, to the cry of out Bridge!
Hours later, the club issued a statement announcing the departure of strategist Rafael Puente del Río.
Given this scenario, this Monday the engineer Leopoldo Silva appeared at the Cantera facilities and later the news came out that he had resigned from his position; however, the institution’s board of directors did not accept the resignations.
Silva took over the reins of the squad in 2019. Mejía Barón –former player and Auriazul technical director– joined the club of his origins after leaving the UANL Tigres.
Puente del Río’s contract was agreed only for the Clausura 2023 tournament, the strategist was not well received by the fans and the situation became untenable due to the poor results, with just 11 points out of 36 possible.
The squad rested yesterday and will return to training today, everything indicates that it will be directed on an interim basis by Juan de Dios Ramírez Perales, U-20 team strategist. He Capi Perales, another former university student, would pair up with Carlos Humberto González.
