Globalcaja Foundation renews its support for six sports clubs in the province

Modalities such as rhythmic gymnastics, rugby, badminton, swimming, canoeing and volleyball are the sports disciplines that have received, for another year, the support of the Globalcaja Cuenca Foundation, the result of the entity’s commitment to people and with sport.

The Foundation, led by its president, Carlos de la Sierra, has renewed the collaboration agreements with the clubs CD ‘Ritmo Q en K’, CD Rugby ‘A palos’, CD Badminton ‘Albatros’, CD Natación Cuenca, CD Piragüismo and CD Volleyball ‘Hervás’ Cuenca, thus making the practice of these sports, which are not massive, easier in the province of Cuenca, and have more affiliates each year.

“Behind all sports practice, whether individual or in teams, there are values, such as effort, teamwork and the desire to excel, which from the Globalcaja Foundation we believe are very important”, indicated Carlos de la Sierra, which has recognized these clubs for the work they do to make it possible for Cuenca to have a broader sports offer.

Globalcaja, with all disciplines

Thus, for example, the practice of artistic gymnastics in Cuenca is possible, to a large extent, thanks to the work carried out by the Club Ritmo K En Q, which has once again received the support of the Globalcaja Foundation for holding an annual tournament which this year brought together 23 clubs from Castilla-La Mancha and Madrid, and which had the participation of almost 200 athletes.

Another sport with which the Globalcaja Foundation collaborates is canoeing. Thanks to CD Cuenca, the province participates in different national and international competitions, and also maintains a Canoeing School for all ages in which its youth academy is being formed.

Swimming is another sport that receives the support of the entity through the Cuenca Swimming Club, which has close to 150 members and which, among other activities, organizes the Subida al Peñote every summer, a national level competition that becomes a real party around this practice.

Likewise, rugby is another of the disciplines that is practiced in Cuenca, thanks to the ‘A Palos’ Club, the only one in this sport discipline in the province and that, one more year, and there are already six, has received the support of the foundation. With this help, the club works to promote this sport in the educational centers of Cuenca, thus expanding its youth academy, currently made up of 80 boys and girls.

Fundación Globalcaja supports badminton through the ‘Albatros’ Sports Club, in which some thirty federated athletes of all ages participate in the male and female categories. In addition, CD Albatros has a Badminton School with about 30 students, who participate in the Regional School-Age Sports Championship, and holds tournaments open to the public. CD Albatros is the only badminton club in the province of Cuenca.

Finally, the Globalcaja Foundation collaborates with the Hervás Cuenca Sports Club, also in carrying out actions to disseminate and promote volleyball among the young population. This club has been promoting volleyball in Cuenca for more than 25 years and currently has a hundred athletes and teams in all categories, from senior to juniors, as well as collaborating with the Municipal Schools in promoting this sport.

To this promotion of the practice of sports in such diverse disciplines, we must add other agreements that the Foundation maintains annually with clubs and associations in the province, such as the Athletics Club, CD Motor 4×4, the Association of Sports Clubs of Cuenca, local paddle tennis, hiking, athletics, and cycling clubs, or entities such as the Provincial Council (in support of the Popular Races, MTB and Duathlon and Mountain sports circuits). In total, the Foundation supports an average of some 65 sports entities in the province.
