GAK celebrates victory against Admira

After its false start into the new year on Sunday, the GAK wrote to 2023 for the first time on the second attempt. Graz won 1-0 (1-0) at home against Admira in the second division. The gold goal was scored by the Ukrainian Bogdan Wiunnyk (39th). Fourth in the table, who is dreaming of returning to the Bundesliga, is six points behind the new leaders Blau-Weiss Linz with twelve laps to go.

For the strong winter signing Wiunnyk it was the first goal in the GAK dress. The 20-year loan from top Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk also hit the crossbar with a remarkable overhead kick after a change of sides (63′). The Grazers dictated the game for a long time, but failed to make an early decision. In a gripping finish, Admira also had chances to equalize, but missed them.

For the Lower Austrians it was the fifth defeat in a row. The Bundesliga relegated from Südstadt is bobbing as a provisional eleventh in no man’s land in the table. The GAK, on the other hand, has regained hope after their 1: 2 last week at second-placed Horn. Veteran Michael Liendl and Co. have won four of their last six league games – with one draw and one defeat. On Friday (8.30 p.m.) a guest appearance awaits table neighbors Vienna.
