France national team – Kylian Mbappé becomes new captain – Sport

Exceptional striker Kylian Mbappé is to lead the French national football team as captain in the future. According to a report in the sports newspaper The Team National coach Didier Deschamps has appointed the 24-year-old offensive player from Paris Saint-Germain to succeed Hugo Lloris. The goalkeeper had resigned from the French team after losing to Argentina in the World Cup final. Mbappé should already be wearing the captain’s armband at the start of the European Championship qualifiers next Friday in Paris against the Netherlands.

The World Cup top scorer has scored 36 goals in his 66 international matches and was a member of the 2018 World Cup team. In addition to Mbappé, Atlético Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann had also had hopes of becoming captain. According to the newspaper Le Figaro Griezmann should now even consider retiring from the national team due to the Deschamps vote for Mbappé. The striker, who has been 32 since Tuesday, wants to wait for the two international matches against the Netherlands and Ireland (March 27) and then make a decision.
