Sandro Wagner stops as a trainer at SpVgg Unterhaching. In the future, the former national soccer player wants to take a step “in the other direction”.

Sandro Wagner leaves SpVgg Unterhaching. As the Bavarian regional league announced, the former German national soccer player will not extend his coaching contract, which expires in the summer.

“Manfred Schwabl (President) had the courage in spring 2021 to hire me as a coach and then even entrust me with the first team, although I had hardly any experience up to that point. I will always be grateful to him and the club for this trust”, said Wagner in a club announcement.

Wagner started his club coaching career at the Spielvereinigung in 2021. With the U19s, the former striker of TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and FC Bayern Munich made it into the A-Junior Bundesliga. For the 2021/2022 season, the 35-year-old took over the first team, with which he is currently the leader in the Bavarian regional league.

Wagner leaves the future open

“I learned an incredible amount during this time: about myself, about working with a great team and what I still want to learn as a coach,” said Wander.

He left open what his future looks like – but announced a step “in a different direction”. “I will announce exactly what this looks like soon. I want to give the club the opportunity to find a successor in peace through early communication,” said Wagner.
