1:07 p.m .: Why only two years, Mr. Tuchel?

Nagelsmann had a five-year contract, while Tuchel only signed for a good two years. Why is that? The coach says: “This is progress. I had 18 months at Chelsea. I’m very comfortable with the runtime. If that’s good, we’ll try to extend it. If not, it won’t go any longer, no matter what the working paper says.”

This is the end of Tuchel’s performance. We say goodbye and wish you a nice Saturday.

1:02 p.m .: Tuchel on the constellation that it’s about to go against his former club

“When it became clear to me that the offer was about immediately, the penny dropped for me that Dortmund would go straight away. But for me, that’s not really the big story, that was a few years ago. But the importance is very clear. It’s the game in German football and our deficit in the table has made it even more explosive.”

12:55 p.m .: Exclamation mark against Dortmund

Tuchel knows he doesn’t have much time. Most of the players don’t return from their national teams until the end of the week before the game against Dortmund on Saturday. “Not all players will be happy,” says Tuchel: “It’s now about getting to know each other, feeling each other and also affording the luxury of shaking off the past. We want to set the first exclamation mark on Saturday.”

12:49 p.m.: “I assumed that I would continue my career abroad”

“The timing was very surprising, there was no contact at all beforehand,” said Tuchel when asked whether he and his management had put pressure on Bayern. This was not the case at all: “I assumed that I would continue my career abroad.” Therefore, after the first conversation on Tuesday evening, he had to sleep a night over the request: “The enthusiasm, the size of the task, then very quickly outweighed the challenge.”

12:45 p.m .: “Impressive CV”, praises Kahn

Kahn praises Tuchel for his work with the star ensemble of Paris Saint-Germain: “There are easier tasks.” Tuchel has an impressive CV: “We are glad that he is our coach.”

12:41 p.m .: Appearance of Thomas Tuchel

Tuchel enters the podium in a black T-shirt and jacket, framed by Salihamidzic and Kahn. He says: “It’s an honor to be asked by FC Bayern. Signing an employment contract here is something very special. It’s one of the biggest clubs in the world. The club’s DNA is a commitment. It’s about winning and how to win. The squad is composed accordingly. It’s one of the most talented and best squads in Europe. You can play for any title with this squad.”

12:32 p.m .: First meeting with Tuchel on Tuesday

According to Salihamidzic, the first meeting with Tuchel took place on Tuesday. After the promise, Nagelsmann was called immediately. He emphasizes that the information was not made public by FC Bayern in advance, but was “leaked by a third person”.

Now there is a short break. Then the new Bayern coach, Thomas Tuchel, sits on the podium.

12:28 p.m .: Have professionals complained about Nagelsmann?

There are no clear answers to this question. But you can read between the lines. Salihamidzic says: “We are in constant contact with the players. They are honest players, great guys.” However, “energy, discipline and mentality” were missing on the pitch.

Kahn says: “I try to search for the conversation, to listen here and there. At all times we had a clear picture of how the players were thinking and feeling.”

12:22 p.m .: Salihamidzic dodges

When asked what responsibility the often undisciplined players have in the situation, Salihamidzic dodges and repeats what he just said. However, he emphasizes that he supported Nagelsmann from “the first to the last minute”.

12:17 p.m .: Was Bavaria under time pressure?

Salihamidzic answers the question of whether Bayern were under time pressure. After all, other clubs were also interested in Tuchel: “In the end we were no longer convinced, then you have to react. Fortunately, such a top option was on the market. Then it happened quickly.”

12:12 p.m .: Brutal conclusion from Salihamidzic

Sports director Hasan Salihamidzic is now speaking. According to Kahn, this is not necessarily easy because there is a risk of repetition. Because he also reports first of all how difficult this decision was. But then he goes into detail about Sunday’s game in Leverkusen, where the team deservedly lost 2-1. Then Salihamidzic drew a rather brutal conclusion: “The constellation between the team and the coach no longer fit. The performance curve was constantly pointing downwards.”

12:08 p.m.: “Our goals were at risk”

Despite the purchases made in the winter, the team’s consistency hasn’t increased, says Kahn, and one cannot be entirely satisfied with the performance after the winter break: “We’ve won five out of ten Bundesliga games, drawn three and lost two. That’s not what we aspire to.” You could have made it easy for yourself, let it continue and just hope, says Kahn: “But we saw our goals for this and next season in jeopardy.” Nagelsmann was therefore released: “It was well thought out and no emotional response.”

12:05 p.m.: “No panic decision,” says Kahn

Oliver Kahn opens the press conference and reports on sleepless nights: “These were not easy days. But that’s part of it. Behind a trainer there is also a person. Julian Nagelsmann is an excellent coach. We have always understood each other personally and worked together.” Now comes the but: “We have a duty to ensure sporting success.” Kahn reports on “big fluctuations” in sporting performance. The whole thing has nothing to do with a “panic decision”.
