Failed at Club Brugge and now on FC Barcelona’s radar

Played in the Jupiler Pro League, but this was not a success. During the last World Cup he was the revelation of the tournament and this has not gone unnoticed by FC Barcelona.

In the summer of 2019, Sofyan Amrabat came over from Feyenoord for 2.5 million euros. However, the story at Club Brugge would not be a success. The defensive midfielder was already rented out to Hellas Verona one season later. Club Brugge was able to sell him with a small profit, but it was mainly there that he blossomed. His big transfer to Fiorentina for 19.5 million euros was a fact in the winter of 2021.

His level only went up and the Dutch Moroccan emerged as one of the trendsetters of the Moroccan national team at the World Cup in Qatar. This ensured that there was a lot of interest last winter.

“Barca were willing to pay a good transfer fee,” said Amrabat. “I really hoped the deal would go through. But Fiorentina said, ‘no, no way. You are one of our most important players, we will not let you go now. In the summer we can discuss a transfer. If FC Barcelona shows up , you want to take the plunge, and if Barcelona don’t buy you, someone else will.”
