Who qualifies for the European Football Championship 2024?
Germany is already seeded as host and therefore does not compete in the qualification. The first and second place winners in each of the ten groups will receive a ticket for the European Championship. The last three starting places are determined via the playoffs.
When is the game played?
After the March dates, the group games will still be held in June, September, October and November of this year. The playoffs will take place in March 2024. The final tournament runs from June 14 to July 14, 2024.
Which games are interesting to start with?
Right at the start on Thursday there will be a top duel in Group C between the European Championship finalists Italy and England. Eyes are also on Portugal’s Group J encounter with underdogs Liechtenstein, where superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is set to claim his 197th international cap and set a world record.
Can Russia and Belarus participate?
The Russian national team has been banned from UEFA because of the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine. Belarus, on the other hand, are eligible to play but must play their home games on neutral ground and away from the fans.
Why are the names of the EURO stadiums being changed?
Most of the arenas in the ten venues have different names than those known from the Bundesliga. The reason: Names of sponsors who do not also support UEFA are not allowed to appear in the context of the European Championship. When choosing a name, attention was paid to internationality: Munich’s “Allianz Arena” became the “Munich Football Stadium” and the “Rhein-Energie-Stadion” became the “Cologne Stadium”.
Is there a public viewing during the EM?
It is already certain that football fans will be able to celebrate together on large pitches at the European Championships in 15 months, similar to the summer fairy tale of 2006. “17 major events such as fan villages and public viewings are currently being planned in ten cities. And we’re not finished yet,” said tournament director Philipp Lahm recently.
