Espaly-Saint-Marcel. Philippe Galtier is French archery champion

Philippe Galtier is happy and does not hide it: “I am French champion in the “adult barebow” category. And, this Sunday, March 12, one of the greatest distinctions of the discipline was given to me: a gold medal. »

You use the term bare bow, what type of bow is it?

“Unlike the Olympic bow, it is a bow without sights and a number of accessories. Which makes it a much more natural but less precise bow and therefore requires a much more instructive aim. It is a weapon that I particularly appreciate.

How did you come to the arc? By chance or by conviction?

“I came to the arc by chance. Quite simply by coming to the Carrefour des sports 10 years ago. So I started very late, probably too late. But, little by little, I found my pleasure because it is a technical weapon which requires a lot of calm, serenity, rigor and precision. »

You say you came to the handling of the bow too late but the results are nevertheless there?

“Yes, the bow is a weapon that spoke to me a lot. And little by little, I got caught up in the game of competitions. I worked on this discipline, really a lot. First in the departmental championships. And, 2 years ago, I won the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes championship. And here is 2023: I went to the adult French championship. »

What are your plans now?

“Right now, I don’t know. Maybe I’m a little tired so I’ll take some time to imagine what’s next.”
