Eringa doesn’t know if Ajax is done with Ward: “This is a job for the management”

| by NielsOpdam

Pier Eringa does not know whether Ajax has already settled with Julian Ward, the chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Amsterdam club says in Op1. According to various media, Ajax is close to appointing Ward as the new director of football affairs, but Eringa cannot say anything about that.

When Ward’s name is presented to Eringa, he says that name means nothing to him. ‘I get the question. Is it round? I don’t know about that. This is a job for the management’, emphasizes the chairman of the Supervisory Board of Ajax. According to Eringa, as a supervisor, he is responsible, among other things, for checking whether the organization is in good shape. ‘The fact that it is not yet definitively known who the trainer is, who will be the technical director and the lack of a football commissioner is vulnerable, because you do not have the football axis in order yet.’

According to Eringa, the aim is for Ajax to appoint a football commissioner first, then a technical director and finally a trainer. The chairman of the commissioner of Ajax says that the football commissioner is expected within a few weeks. ‘Sometimes you have to deal with an ideal situation, often you have to act according to how things are going. The responsibility of the Supervisory Board is to ensure that the football commissioner is there, and I also feel responsible for that. When it comes to the technical director and the trainer, it is something for the management to put a lot of effort into that and they do.’

‘Ajax has so much appeal and experience value’

Eringa was officially appointed chairman of the supervisory board at Ajax a week ago and has noticed that the Amsterdam club is popular. ‘Ajax has so much appeal and experiential value that I am also surprised that it is so bad, but that is also fun at the same time. If all goes well, I will now be in the news for a while at the appointment and after that you will never really hear anything about the chairman of the supervisory board. It doesn’t go well if that happens too often.’
