Emma Raducanu ‘unavailable’ for Britain’s Billie Jean King Cup qualifier against France, according to British captain Anne Keothavong. On April 14 and 15, Great Britain will meet France, with the winner of this match qualifying for the final of the Billie Jean King Cup.
On April 17, the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart will begin. Raducanu, who is a global ambassador for Porsche, has pledged to play on the clay courts in Stuttgart. The match between Great Britain and France will be played on a hard indoor surface.
Changing surfaces is always tricky and that’s probably why Raducanu opted out of the Billie Jean King Cup qualifier.
Raducanu could return to the British squad in 2023.
If Great Britain beat France, they will continue their campaign for the 2023 Billie Jean King Cup.
Britain captain Keothavong hasn’t ruled out the possibility of Raducanu returning to his national team in the near future. “I’m happy to name the same team we had four months ago in Glasgow, where we got along so well and the team spirit was electric.
We put in some memorable performances throughout the week which helped us reach the semi-finals. Emma is not available for this match, but we hope to see her back in the squad in the near future,” Keothavong said, according to BBC Sport.
On his sideRaducanu just wrapped up a positive campaign in Indian Wells. After two months away, Raducanu returned to competition in Indian Wells. At the start of the tournament, Raducanu was about to withdraw from the tournament as she was suffering from a wrist problem and the after effects of tonsillitis.
But Raducanu decided to play and the Briton ended up beating Danka Kovinic, Magda Linette and Beatriz Haddad Maia. In the Round of 16, Raducanu’s campaign at Indian Wells ended in a loss to Iga Swiatek. Next up for Raducanu is the Miami Open, where she received a wildcard.
