Embiid in the France team? “He will have to soak up the culture”, warns Gobert

During an interview with Mundo Deportivo, Rudy Gobert spoke about the possible arrival of Joel Embiid in the France team. While warning the pivot on the need for him to integrate the “culture”, the Minnesota Timberwolves player also spoke of the “frightening” prospect of forming a line with Victor Wembanyama and Embiid inside.

It must be said that, on paper, the project looks good. While the French team, Olympic and European vice-champion in title, has shown itself to its advantage on the international scene in recent years with Rudy Gobert in charge of the place in the racket, the pivot of the Minnesota Timberwolves could well register a lot of reinforcements near the circle in the coming months

Victor Wembanyama, the announced No. 1 of the next NBA draft, should make his debut with the Blues in a major international competition on the occasion of the next World Cup (August 25-September 10 in Japan, the Philippines and Indonesia). And the new prodigy of French basketball could well be imitated by a certain Joel Embiid, naturalized French last summer and courted by the tricolor selection. For the time being, the pivot of the Philadelphia Sixers, who also recently had an American passport, has not yet made his decision.

“Which selection will Embiid choose? I don’t know, it’s up to him to ask the question. Logic would dictate that he go where he wants to go, estimated Rudy Gobert in the columns of Sports world this Tuesday. But he has to understand that if he comes to us, he won’t just have to go on the court, play and that’s it. He will have to immerse himself in the culture and understand that it goes beyond a simple team. We will also have to adapt, it will be hard.”

A trio with Embiid and Wembanyama? “It’s quite scary”

If he warns Embiid, currently in the race to be voted best player of the NBA regular season, Gobert however believes that the prospect of forming a trio of interiors with the Sixers player and Wembanyama is particularly enticing. “It’s hard to imagine what a trio like that could look like. It’s pretty scary. Would it make us invincible? It’s possible. Like I said, it would be pretty terrifying,” claimed the player trained in Cholet Basket.

Asked at the end of January about a possible adventure in the blue jersey, Embiid had let it be known that he intended to make his decision at the end of the NBA season, which may as well end at the end of April (1st round of the playoffs) as mid -June (finals) for the Sixers. The opponents of the France team still have time to pray.
