Elite women lead the way in sport

Sara Yusto, Sara Herrero, Miriam Marcos, Carolina Ramos and Elena Justo are five women from Benaventana and those related to Benavente who are part of the drive to pave the way in sport and give visibility to the female elite.

In an act conducted by the sports journalist of the Moto GP World Championship in Dazn Natacha Alfageme, these sports figures have met to transfer the secondary school students from the centers of León Felipe, Los Sauces and Los Salados.

A meeting that opens the 8M day in Benavente organized by the Department of Equality and which has had as its central point the importance of promoting sport among women, the percentages, in various areas, show that the female presence is always much less than the masculine. The visibility of sports practiced by women gives them fewer minutes of attention in the media, as well as in commercial initiatives.

Elena Justo, coach of the national Rescue and First Aid team and worker in municipal swimming pools, Sara Herrero, archery athlete, Miriam Marco, futsal player and wrestler from Leon, Carolina Ramos, rhythmic gymnastics coach and physical trainer, and Saya Yusto enduro cyclist have shared their experiences in different disciplines, as well as vindicating the importance of practicing sports to improve the quality of life and social values ​​that can direct the direction towards respect and equality.

Some speeches that have tried to permeate among the young students, encouraging them to start practicing any sport but at the same time sending a message to the teachers so that they empathize with those young federated athletes who compete every weekend “and be more flexible to the time to take an exam, for example”.

The act ended with the delivery of gifts by the Mayor of Benavente, Luciano Huerga and the Councilor for Equality, Antonio Vega.
