Eintracht Frankfurt vs. VfL Wolfsburg: the individual review

Kevin Trapp: For the keeper it was the 224th appearance between the Eintracht posts. With that he caught up with Uli Stein. Only Oka Nikolov (226) and Dr. Peter Kunter (234) is ahead of the 32-year-old in the “all-time list of the best”, for whom things got off to a bad start this time. In action as a rushing libero for his inattentive front men, he came a step too late before the 0:1 (10th). Remain undeterred. The saves against Yannik Gerhardt (38th, 70th) stood out from his determined contributions.

Total: His performance was particularly eyed: the centre-back faced off against Omar Marmoush, who is high on Frankfurt’s summer signing wish list. In the direct duels, the Egyptian in Wolfsburg’s services hung his guard several times, such as the opening goal (10th). But the Brazilian kept his nerve. With an important save in the 37th minute, when he was able to tip a shot from Marmoush past the post just before the line.

Makoto Hasebe: 14 years ago, the Japanese became German champions with the Lower Saxony. On Sunday, the tireless professional again directed the last Eintracht row in front of his own penalty area, which immediately turned out to be full of holes: the opponent benefited from his insufficient defensive alliance with Tuta, for whom his initial dominance paid off. The oldie then offered himself continuously as a free man and tried to initiate quick attacks with high balls behind the chain.

Evan Ndicka: First choice again after the period of reflection in Leipzig. Light and shadow marked his performance. With resolute body language against Patrick Wimmer and the necessary accuracy of fit when initiating switching actions. Advance with when opportunity permitted, rewarding himself and colleagues midway through the first half. Got the ball in the VfL penalty area and didn’t hesitate: His direct hit with the left was a rarity, it was his first league goal in his 22nd appearance this season. However, his hesitation made it possible for Gerhardt to make it 2-2 before the break (43rd minute).

Aurelius Buta: Powerhouse that makes the eleven more unpredictable with its pace and physique. He showed a good eye for the flank presentation to equalize.

Daichi Kamada: In the 9th minute, the midfield all-rounder, who had been called up as a six, came to a promising conclusion, but fell behind.

Sebastian Rode: Tilled every inch of the lawn with diligence. The captain confronted his Wolfsburg counterpart, Maximilian Arnold, as a personified stop sign.

Philipp Max: With the feeling and power that is in his left foot, the left winger could have provided that certain something as a specialist for the set pieces in Wolfsburg – his ideas just fizzled out at the beginning because they did not get through to a buyer.

Jesper Lindström: The Dane switched to attack when he saw the opportunity. Didn’t get as far as he wished, though. The Schlaks didn’t particularly like the robust gait of VfL.

Mario Götze: Alternated with Kolo Muani in the lead. If he let himself fall further back, he initiated advances by directly shifting the action to his fellow combatants.

Randal Colored: In the 18th minute, the goal-getter evaded compatriot Maxence Lacroix’s guard with a false body in the penalty area and headed Buta’s cross into the net from just a few yards out for Koen Casteels. Already his 16th goal of the season.

Christopher Lenz: Replaced Max in the final minutes and fitted in with commitment.

Kristijan Jakic: Came when Rode was exhausted after 75 minutes and was bursting with energy. Collected yellow because he overdid it with his bet.

Rafael Borré: With him for Lindström, Glasner wanted to provide fresh impetus in the end. Worked just poorly.

Ansgar Knauff: Got a handful of minutes and helped secure the draw.
