Djokovic: ‘US exclusion? My body is more important’ – Tennis

“No regrets”, Novak Djokovic does not take steps back from his no vax choices, even if the no of the US authorities at the entrance to Indian Wells and the non-participation in the Californian tournament cost him the loss of the number 1 in the ranking tennis world championship. “I’ve learned over the course of my life that regrets hold you back and make you live in the past – the Serbian tennis player told CNN – and that’s exactly what I don’t want to do. Of course, I don’t even want to live too much in the future… Simply I want to live as much as possible in the present, obviously thinking about how to create a better future.” As for the new number 1, “I therefore congratulate Alcaraz. He absolutely deserves to return to first place”. As for the vaccine, “decisions about my body are more important than any title,” Djokovic added.
Now the Serbian hopes that the situation will change for the US Open, which starts on August 28th. “The current situation is such that I hope it will change during the year, on the occasion of the US Open: it is the most important tournament for me on American soil. I don’t know – the conclusion – if I will be allowed to participate. The fact that whether or not I can play obviously depends on the decisions of the highest government authorities. I’m waiting to understand”.
