It’s a real explosion in the racing world. Triple golden riding crop over jumps as a jockey in 2009, 2010 and 2012, David Cottin had perfectly succeeded in his retraining when he hung up his boots in 2017. He became a trainer in Lamorlaye (Oise) in the process, he quickly experienced prestigious success under his new cap.
Even if the sanction will only be effective in fourteen days and he has the possibility of appealing, David Cottin sees his coaching career, in the medium term at least, seriously compromised. Via a statement published yesterday at 2 p.m., France Galop, one of the two parent companies organizing the races, indicated: “A training check, on December 3, 2022, of the staff of the David Cottin training company by a veterinarian commissioned by the National Federation of Horse Racing reveals several violations, including in particular intra-articular and paravertebral infiltrations of a corticosteroid substance. […] In application of the Galop Racing Code, the Stewards of France Galop have decided to suspend the training authorizations of trainer David Cottin for a period of 12 months. »
In his defence, the latter mentioned in particular a lack of organization and vigilance with regard to the deadlines authorized for this type of treatment (fourteen days before the next race) but did not deny having called on an Italian veterinarian “much less costly than some”, in his own words, but which had been the subject of a judicial review… Finally, according to a source close to the case, “this sanction appears extremely heavy compared to similar cases, and it would not therefore be surprising that other cases arise in the weeks or months to come. »
