When we talk about the references of French combat sports, it’s hard not to mention Cyrille Diabaté, one of the original bosses. Recently, “The Snake” also delivered a tasty anecdote, which involves none other than a young Khabib Nurmagomedov. And even from an early age, the Eagle obviously had an overflowing charisma…

With his imposing physique and his 19 career victories, Cyrille Diabaté was one of the first French fighters to make himself known to the general public. Retired since 2014, the native of the Paris region can now be seen in some podcasts, including GONG on YouTube. The opportunity for him to look back on a career rich in gripping road stories.

Khabib Nurmagomedov, 18, rescued Cyrille Diabaté from a bad step

Quite recently, Diabaté mentioned one of his visits to Ingushetia, a Russian territory very close to Chechnya. On the spot, the Frenchman had the nasty surprise to see his jacket stolen from him by a group of fighters not really friendly towards him. The Savior ? Khabib Nurmagomedov. Explanations:

I go into the locker room, and I realize that my jacket has been stolen. It was new, I was proud of it and everything! I leave the prefab, I walk around, and I see lots of guys around a campfire, laughing. They were Ingush, fighters, guys from the club. And there, I see a guy squatting by the fire with my jacket! Even though it was 15 meters away, not even.

I say, “Oh son of a bitch!” I go to see him, tap him on the shoulder and say, “Hey, give me my jacket”. He begins to confuse me, I say: “Take off your jacket and give it to me.” There everyone gets up, and they all come around me. I thought it was going to be hot. I ask him again to give me back my jacket, and it starts to heat up.

Then suddenly, Khabib arrives. He says something to the guy, I don’t even know what, and the guy gives me back my jacket. The guy had stolen my normal jacket, quietly. I said thank you Khabib!

Already highly respected while still honing his skills in his native Russia, Nurmagomedov has since become a living legend, and rightly so. In any case, we can only advise you to listen to the entire podcast by clicking here, for other stories of this ilk.

Far from his bases, Cyrille Diabaté could have had serious problems with the group of fighters Ingush who had just stolen it. But Khabib, barely an adult, stepped in to settle the situation with class and respect. No wonder when you see what has become of the Eagle…
