Crystal Palace have sacked manager Patrick Vieira. The 46-year-old Frenchman has to leave because of the dramatic results of the past period.
Crystal Palace has failed to win in its last 12 Premier League games. The club from London has therefore dropped to twelfth place, with only three points more than number eighteen AFC Bournemouth. The numbers eighteen, nineteen and twenty are relegated from the Premier League at the end of the stage.
“We are sorry to have had to make this difficult decision. Unfortunately, the results of the last month have put us in a difficult situation. We feel that change is needed to maintain our Premier League status,” said chairman Steve Parish at the Crystal Palace club site.
Vieira, who enjoyed great success as a player at Arsenal and became world champion with France in 1998, joined Crystal Palace in the summer of 2021. Last season he led the Londoners to twelfth place.
The lack of goals is an important explanation for the decline at ‘The Eagles’. Crystal Palace only scored 21 goals in 27 rounds.
Just like Vieira, his staff members Osian Roberts, Kristian Wilson and Saïd Aïgoun must also leave the club. Crystal Palace is not yet making any statements about Vieira’s succession.
Vieira already sacked coach in Premier League ninth
Nine Premier League managers have already been sacked this season. Previously Scott Parker (Bournemouth), Thomas Tuchel (Chelsea), Ralph Hasenhüttl (Southampton), Bruno Lage (Wolverhampton Wanderers), Steven Gerrard (Aston Villa), Frank Lampard (Everton), Jesse Marsch (Leeds United) and Nathan Jones ( Southampton) dismissed.
The record stands at ten head coaches fired in one season. That last happened in 2021/2022.
