Cristiano Ronaldo: settlement with ex-Portugal coach Santos! | Sports

A breath of fresh air is blowing through the Portuguese national team!

After the departure of legendary coach Fernando Santos, Roberto Martinez is now in charge of the 2016 European champions.

Portugal lost to Morocco in the quarter-finals of the World Cup in Qatar. Even qualifying for the winter tournament in the desert was torture. After the tournament, Santos was fired.

Superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, on the other hand, is still with the Seleção. And: He only sheds a few tears after ex-coach Santos.

Training under the new coach has changed significantly, says the now 38-year-old. “The balance of the first days is very positive. All of us, the players, are very happy. The training sessions are very dynamic. The conversations with the coach too. The coaching staff has a different mentality,” Ronaldo explained to Portuguese media.

And what is different compared to the Santos era? “You feel a change, and that’s good. It’s nice to have variety. The air is healthier and fresher, and there is a good atmosphere. The intensity of the training is very good, it’s different. My teammates also told me they loved the practice.”

You can interpret that as a hidden tip against the ex-coach. Already during the World Cup there were over-rejections between the coach and the superstar. Ronaldo has since been dropped from the starting XI. There were even rumors that he wanted to leave the national team immediately.

After Santos’ exit, Ronaldo’s mood seems to be better again – at least with the national team.

Also about his inglorious end Manchester United said the star of Saudi Arabian club al-Nassr FC.

“I have no problem saying I’ve had a bad patch in my career, but I have no time for regrets. Life goes on and whether I’m fine or not, it’s been part of my evolution. When we are at the top of the mountain, we often cannot see what is below. Now I’m more prepared and the study was important because I’ve never been through it like I’ve been through in the past few months. Now I’m a better person.”

His contract with Premier League club would be wound up after a scandalous interview in which he publicly attacked the club, coaches and owners. He then moved to the desert in Saudi Arabia.

He doesn’t seem to have regretted this change yet. No wonder. He should collect 500 million euros for two and a half years.

About the rather underclass league he says: “The league is very competitive. The Saudi League should be viewed differently as it is a very balanced league. I am positively surprised by the level. Careful, I’m not saying it’s the Premier League. But maybe in six or seven years it will be the fourth or fifth strongest league ever.”

What remains to be seen…
