The next tournament, which will host Mexico, the United States and Canada together in 2026, will feature 48 teams that will play 104 matches. The next event will be in 2030 with the desire of South America to celebrate the centenary of the championship in this region. A priori, FIFA will approve the bid regulations in June 2023 and will make the final election in the third quarter of 2024.

At point C of the agenda, in the address by the president, it was time to view a video spot for the 2030 World Cup: to promote the joint venue between Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and Chile, 18 stadiums were chosen.

Under the slogan “Together for the centenary world cup”, the highest authority of regional soccer only limited itself to giving way to a video without further specifications. There the expectation in the region is shown and different symbolic enclosures appear. Argentina appears with seven options, Paraguay con cinco, Uruguay con three y Chile with others three. It should be noted that it was not established that these are the definitive venues in the final candidacy. Among the details is the projected construction in Paraguay of the conmebol stadium for 60,000 people.

The financial director of the institution, Rafael Cabrera, positioned himself on this item in a video on the entity’s finances and released details. Although he clarified that 92% of the year’s expenses (461 million dollars) will go directly to soccer, he stressed that the “solid financial position” allowed planning an investment of 54 million dollars in “assets.” They will mainly be focused on the beginning of the construction of the conmebol stadium with the intention that it be “an icon for South American football.” This budget was unanimously approved.

Although it was not clarified whether the new facility will be built there, the authorities of conmebol They confirmed that they appeared at the public auction of the facilities belonging to the General Díaz Club in the vicinity of the entity’s building. The auction took place on August 26, 2022, there were 19 bidders and Conmebol was the only sports entity. “It was avoided that a good destined to the practice of soccer was lost for its use in any other industry. Conmebol was awarded the property in the amount of 25,100 million guaraníes, equivalent to approximately $3.7 million. It will be used for the practice and development of soccer”, explained the deputy general secretary, Monserrat Jiménez.

“Four years ago we distributed 70 million dollars throughout the continent. From this cycle, beginning with this year, We are going to distribute 320 million dollars with the possibility of continuing to grow. Which would lead to the fact that in this next four-year cycle we will distribute an unprecedented number of $1.2 billion”, Alejandro Domínguez defended the economic progress of his administration.

With the focus on getting the venue for the 2030 World Cup, Domínguez left a message directly to Gianni Infantino, one of those present in the room. “President Infantino I want to appeal to propose to you to find together a way to celebrate 100 years. It is not the 2030 Cup, this is the Centennial Cup. Life gave you the opportunity and luck that you are the president. That FIFA, that football, us, let’s not make the mistake of the Olympic Games not going to Athens in 1996. We have a historic moment, if we get together we have the opportunity for FIFA to shine. We want you to count on us. We want the World Cup because we have to honor memory. We are preparing and we are going to be ready,” he expressed.

“Let’s start this new game playing in solidarity, as a team, we believe in ourselves and in our people. Above all, the biggest challenge we have, and here I ask you to join us, everything we do from this moment on we have to do it with excellence. Conmebol has to be synonymous with excellence”, reflected the president.

Notably conmebol recently made an agreement with concacaf to hold the 2024 Copa América in the United States with the six best federations in that region. An agreement was also reached in the women’s branch and a new club tournament was created.
