Chinese New Year 2023: the complete schedule of the festivities in La Plata

On Saturday March 11 they will celebrate the Chinese New Year in the City of La Plata with free admission. The meeting will take place at Paseo del Bosque (1 and 53) from 12 noon and will last until 11 pm.

In the Year of the Water Rabbit, there will be more than 15 sections that will offer an agenda of shows with the richness of oriental culture, such as typical dances, pop and traditional Chinese music, martial arts and the well-known Dance of Lions and Dragons.

Among the most outstanding sections, the event will have a Chinatown where you can enjoy Chinese and oriental food and attractions typical of Chinese culture.

In addition, the Social Economy programs of the Pro Humanae Vitae Foundation will be present: CUGA Gastronomic Urban Circuit with the greatest varieties of culinary styles, and the traditional Artisan walk of the Manos Platenses Fair.

Meanwhile, on the main stage there will be presentations starting at 2:00 p.m. martial arts schools from the city of La Plata and from the city of Buenos Aires, among them Tai Chi, Kung Fu.

The famous Chinese Imperial Fashion Show from the Confucius Institute of the UNLP with more than 20 costumes from the different dynasties, musical shows by Chinese artists and musicians.

On the other hand, the traditional ceremony of Nailing of Pupilsand the dances of the Chinese Dragons and Lions of the Mei Hua School, which will bring prosperity and good omens for all those present.

In China Square, the public will be able to practice Chinese calligraphy, play with the traditional sticks, learn the age-old technique of cutting paper or taste a delicious tea in the renowned “Tea Ceremony”. Also in this 2023 edition they will hold the 1st Argentine Mahjong Tournament.

At the Martial Arts Point you can practice the most traditional Chinese and oriental disciplines such as Kung Fu, Taekwondo, Judo, Iaido-Kendo. In this space, families will also be able to take pictures with the famous lions and dragons, protagonists of the largest Chinese celebration in Latin America.

In the last edition of the 2022 Chinese New Year, also held in the Paseo del Bosque, they estimate that more than 200,000 people attended, and that it was the event that attracted the most tourism in the Capital Region of the Province, with an agenda of more than 20 shows and more than 150 stalls for gastronomic entrepreneurs and artisans.

The event is organized by the Pro Humanae Vitae Foundation in conjunction with the Municipality of La Plata, the Cultural Institute of the Province of Buenos Aires; the Association of Chinese Merchants of La Plata; the Confucius Institute of the National University of La Plata; the Mei Hua School and the Guangdong Chamber of Commerce in Argentina.

Also accompanying the organization are the commercial chambers, members of the Institute for Training and Trade Promotion: the Friends of Calle Doce Association; the Commercial Chamber of the Platense Center; the La Plata Oeste Chamber; the City Bell Chamber of Commerce and Industry; the San Carlos Commercial Chamber; the Center for Merchants and Industrialists on Avenida 44; Meridiano V merchants and OACIS, Association of Commerce, Industry and Services of Olmos.
