Chelsea eliminates defending champion Lyon after thriller in quarter-finals Champions League | Champions League

Lyon had won the Champions League for the 8th time in its history last season, but this time things looked grim, as Chelsea in France had proved too strong 0-1 in the first leg of the quarter-finals.

Chelsea only had to finish it at Stamford Bridge and for a long time there was no problem. Until the Canadian Gilles made it 0-1 fifteen minutes from the end.

In the meantime, the German Dabriz and the Norwegian Hegerberg (ex-winner of the Ballon d’Or) had made their appearance at Lyon and they seemed to make the difference in extra time.

But in the 120th minute, Chelsea still drew a “get out of jail free” card. Maren Mjelde, also a substitute, still won penalties.

Chelsea goalkeeper Berger, next season’s competitor for Nicky Evrard, became the hero: 2 penalties from Lyon did not go in. A farewell in minor for Janice Cayman, who will leave Lyon after this season, she also remained on the bench for the entire match.

In the semifinals we will therefore not get a reissue of last year’s final, because unlike Lyon, Barcelona managed to place. It had nothing to do with AS Roma.

With Arsenal, there is a second English team in the semi-finals. They turned the tables against Bayern Munich. Arsenal must get past Wolfsburg to reach the final.
