CEO Peter Bossaert fired from Belgian Football Association by Board of Directors | football

KBVB chairman Paul Van den Bulck saw the contract last month and set up a law firm on it. It concluded that the new contract “infringes the code of ethics and violates the law and the rules of internal order”.

The new contract used an indexation of his wages of 500,000 euros, but the new conditions for a wage bonus of 100,000 euros in particular were a thorn in the side of the directors. That bonus would actually be almost acquired.

Bossaert and the legal department of the RBFA denied that there were infringements.

The relationship between Van den Bulck and Bossaert had already soured – due to recurring discussions about powers – and this was the final straw. The members of the Board of Directors felt – and not for the first time – sidelined by the CEO.

Yesterday it came to an early special meeting. Bossaert was first allowed to tell his story, then the Board of Directors continued without him. It was striking that no news came out about this last night or tonight, until the press release this morning with Bossaert’s immediate resignation.

That counted three sentences, no more. “The Board of Directors of the RBFA has decided to terminate the contract of its CEO Peter Bossaert with immediate effect.”

“As of today, the Board of Directors will start working on the succession of its CEO and will meanwhile ensure that the day-to-day operation is ensured.”

“The RBFA refrains from further comment until further notice.”

The beginning of the new era of the Red Devils under national coach Domenico Tedesco, the successor to Roberto Martinez, thus begins in a total imbroglio. So there is a new boss not only on the field, but also next to it.

Bossaert has been employed as CEO since 2018. The former boss of Medialaan (the company behind VTM, Qmusic and Joe) then succeeded Koen De Brabander.
