Cazoo Baskonia clinch impressive win over Fenerbahce, 92-69

Joan Peñarroya’s men bring out the Baskonia character to win against the Turks

An impressive comeback for the men from Vitoria-Gasteiz, who with a final set of 52-20, claimed a crucial victory to continue with the Kaunas Plan. Second win for the Catalans this week at the Buesa where they have already shown that they are practically unstoppable. Vanja Marinkovic took over the helm of the team to seal his best game in Euroleague history with 35 points and a PIR of 29 in his 100th game in the continental competition.

Exchange of hits at the beginning of the match in which Cazoo Baskonia took the reins with a score of 10 to 7 in the first minutes. The intensity was rising and the match remained in a draw with three minutes to go in the first half (17-17).

Cazoo Baskonia could not maintain the lead of the match and the first 10 minutes ended with the score 25-27. The defense of the Turkish team took a step forward and prevented the Catalans from scoring during the first minutes, forcing Joan Peñarroya to stop the match (25-31). The people from Gasteiz, despite the break, were unable to take control of the match and went to the changing rooms 38-44.

Joan Peñarroya’s men added a series of offensive mistakes at the beginning of the second half that prevented them from scoring. The intensity of the match was increasing and Cazoo Baskonia managed to chain some good defensive actions that allowed him to score and get within 4 with two minutes to go (40-54).

A great rush from the locals allowed them to leave ahead at the last half in the bright 60 to 58. Cazoo Baskonia managed to stay ahead and with great choral work they managed to widen the distance as the minutes passed to get +12 with 4 to go minutes (78 – 66). With a 52-20 run, the blaugranas fought until the end and claimed the 92-69 victory.
