BVB, FC Schalke 04, Eintracht, VfB Stuttgart and Co.: The votes on the Bundesliga matchday

The relegation battle in the Bundesliga continues to escalate. Hertha BSC continues to fall into the basement after a bitter defeat, the Red Lantern has now been taken over by VfB Stuttgart. But the biggest change was at the top of the table. The new leader in the Bundesliga is Borussia Dortmund, after a 6-1 win against Cologne and Bayern’s bankruptcy in Leverkusen a day later. The votes for the 25th matchday:

FSV Mainz 05 – SC Freiburg 1:1

Bo Svensson (Coach FSV Mainz 05): “It’s good that we scored, we’re happy about it. But we have to be critical about the last two games. The way we played in the second half is far, far from what we expected. We’ve got ourselves a a bit let down.”

Christian Streich (Coach SC Freiburg): “When you see the energy coming onto the pitch at Mainz, if you don’t do everything to counter it, then you’ll be eaten up here. The team put all their energy onto the pitch and were mentally strong. I can’t be terribly unhappy. If When a team performs like that after the unfortunate defeat against Juve, I can only take my hat off.”

Bayer Leverkusen – Bayern Munich 2:1

Xabi Alonso (Trainer Bayer Leverkusen): “It’s incredible for us, the win, the performance. To win against Bayern, the best team in Europe, you have to do it perfectly in almost every area. We succeeded. We played intensely, but also very very good. It was a deserved win for us, it was important.”

Julian Nagelsmann (Bayern Munich coach): “The switching behavior in both directions was not as good as it needs to be. We deserved to lose. We were definitely not better, but worse. We have to win against Dortmund to be top of the table and bring the trophy to Munich. We have put a lot of pressure on ourselves due to the performance, which wasn’t quite as good as in the past few weeks.”

Union Berlin – Eintracht Frankfurt (2-0)

Urs Fischer (Trainer Union Berlin): “We started well and had access for the first few minutes. Then we lost the thread a bit and made a few tactical adjustments. I think the organization was clear again. I do think that we have this face, what we think of ourselves also demanded, saw. Maybe a lucky win too, but I do think the team put a lot into it.”

Oliver Glasner (Eintracht Frankfurt coach): “Had ifs and buts. I’m cautious because anything I say today can and will be used against me. And that’s why it’s better to keep my mouth shut today.”

Borussia Dortmund – 1. FC Cologne (6:1)

Edin Terzic (Trainer Borussia Dortmund): “Every win is important. Of course, the mood wasn’t great last week – but we’ve got 28 of the last 30 points in the league. It was a successful and enjoyable evening, it was a really good game from goalkeeper to striker . We can all praise.”

Steffen Baumgart (Coach 1. FC Cologne): “Everything didn’t work out. We got our ass full. I don’t want to go into individual stories: We weren’t as good as Dortmund in every respect. We have to deal with that, especially me, because I’m responsible.”

VfB Stuttgart – VfL Wolfsburg (0:1)

Bruno Labbadia (coach VfB Stuttgart): “We didn’t gain access in the first half. We didn’t behave very well tactically. Wolfsburg are a good team, they’re well-rehearsed, Niko did a good job. In the second half we decided to be a lot more courageous up front We had to attack a few times but we didn’t have the punch.”

Niko Kovac (Coach VfL Wolfsburg): “I’m very happy with the performance and the result. We knew it wasn’t going to be easy. But we didn’t allow anything worth mentioning. We can be very happy today.”

VfL Bochum – RB Leipzig (1:0)

Thomas Letsch (coach VfL Bochum): “We conceded little, defended well overall and deservedly went 0-0 at half-time. We knew we wouldn’t get many chances to score, so standards were an issue. I’m pleased that we’ve managed to do that. In the last ten It was wild for a few minutes, then came an outstanding Manuel Riemann.”

Marco Rose (Trainer RB Leipzig): “It turned out to be the game we expected: Bochum at home with a lot of energy, a lot of power in the duels. We defended very well over long stretches, not allowing much. A simple standard goal conceded, then it will be natural in Bochum difficult. We pushed again from the back, played power play, but didn’t take advantage of our huge chances. It ended up being a disappointing defeat.”

FC Augsburg – Schalke 04 (1:1)

Enrico Maassen (FC Augsburg coach): “We were a slightly better team up to the goal in an intense battle. The red card was the crux of the matter, after that it was just a matter of defending it away. We did that very well. The moment when we get the penalty is then very angry. The minimum goal was to keep Schalke at bay, and we did that.”

Thomas Reis (Schalke 04 coach): “In the first half, I completely lacked conviction in my team, I addressed that very clearly at half-time. We were second winners every time we played the second ball, which was very, very annoying. Then we invited Augsburg to score a goal The red card helped us a lot, but we solved it very, very badly there too. But we never gave up, we’re happy to take the point and we don’t have to be ashamed of it.”

TSG Hoffenheim – Hertha BSC (3:1)

Pellegrino Matarazzo (Trainer TSG Hoffenheim): “We came into the game very cautiously. We grew with the opening goal. I’m happy for the team that they got their reward.”

Sandro Schwarz (Hertha BSC coach): “It was a fully deserved defeat. We didn’t perform well and gave gifts. The penalties were clear. We didn’t react well after that.”

Borussia Monchengladbach – Werder Bremen (2:2)

Daniel Farke (Borussia Monchengladbach coach): “We deserved the win, so the late equalizer feels like a loss. We played a first-class game, created a lot of chances. But you also have to create chances. Who knows, maybe this point will still be valuable, too when it just doesn’t feel like it.”

Ole Werner (Werder Bremen coach): “We started with a lot of handicaps and had to do without an incredible number of players. In the second half we certainly had less time. But we came back twice, that commands a lot of respect from me. All in all, it was a well-deserved point for them Circumstances.”
