Armed with scissors threatened the passengers of the train Napoli-Roma, then trying to disconnect one of the security cameras on the regional carriage. It happened today on a convoy headed for the capital. There were moments of tension. The travelers alerted the conductor of what was happening and the latter raised the alarm. On board was a prison police officer traveling to Rome where he was to take up service in the Regina Coeli prison in the early afternoon.

Witness accounts

The incident happened around 1.30pm. From the travellers’ stories it was learned that the man, a Nigerian, was fiddling with scissors on a video surveillance camera installed inside the wagons, it is not clear whether he wanted to steal it or just vandalize it. Someone present told him to stop and he revolted. At that point the prison guard intervened and invited the man to put away the scissors, then faced with a refusal, decided to disarm him. A scuffle ensued in front of the terrified travellers. Eventually the officer managed to immobilize him.

Polfer’s intervention

In the meantime the conductor had alerted Polfer and the Latina Police Headquarters. The convoy stopped at the Latina Scalo station and the agents of three patrols boarded and took into custody the man who had gone into a rage and attacked the prison guard. Once at the police station they identified him and locked him up in the security room of the police station, today he will be taken to the Court where he will be judged for the first time. He is a Nigerian apparently with a criminal record.

In the meantime, the prison police officer was visited by the 118 doctors and then reported to the hospital, for him a prognosis of a few days.
