Biathlon – Doll’s first win of the season – Sport

After the disappointing World Championships, Benedikt Doll achieved the first win of the season for the German biathletes. In the Östersund individual over 20 kilometers, the 32-year-old did not have a penalty. He had never shot clean four times in a World Cup individual. “It was a bit like a practice run today, like a practice shooting, and I hardly wobbled,” he said.

For Doll it was the first success since January 22, 2022 in Antholz. The former sprint world champion achieved his fourth World Cup victory. The good result was rounded off by Philipp Nawrath and Roman Rees in fourth and fifth place. At the World Championships in Oberhof, male biathletes were without a medal for the first time since 1976. Doll also took advantage of the corona-related absence of several favorites. In addition to the Norwegian Johannes Thingnes Bö, his brother Tarjei and teammate Sturla Holm Laegreid were absent.

At the start of the penultimate World Cup season, Denise Herrmann-Wick had already presented an excellent third place: She made it into the top three for the fourth time in a World Cup race this winter. Because in Östersund she celebrated her first two World Cup victories as a ski hunter in December 2017, and she also won her first World Cup title there in 2019.
