Belgium: the footballer hits a roundabout at 200 km / h, his car ends up in the gymnasium

The scene, worthy of a stunt in a blockbuster movie, would be comical if a young man were not seriously injured following the unfortunately very real accident. The victim is Sofian Kiyine, the 25-year-old Belgian-Moroccan midfielder playing in Louvain in the Belgian first division.

Thursday evening, his car hit a roundabout at full speed and landed in a gymnasium, following an unlikely trajectory. The speed of the vehicle was estimated at around 200 km/h on a section of road limited to 90 km/h.

Hospitalized, Kiyine suffers from multiple fractures but “his days are not in danger”, as his club specifies this Friday morning. The young man is the sole victim of the crash. But a catastrophe was narrowly avoided, it seems.

“Luckily, when it happened, the kids had just entered the locker room, confided the alderman (municipal councilor) of Sports for the city of Flémalle to RTL Info. One of the coaches was nevertheless outside and thus saw the vehicle pass. »

Of course, the sports hall, which housed basketball and gymnastics clubs, was considerably damaged. A huge cavity was notably caused by the violent irruption of the vehicle and a lot of debris was waiting to be cleared this Friday morning. The bleacher was, for example, “pulverized” in two under the violence of the impact. “It was still full a few minutes earlier,” the testimonies state.

Sofian Kiyin (22 games in all competitions with OH Louvain this season), Moroccan born in Belgium, arrived last summer, after several years in Italy. “The club is waiting for more clarity on the exact circumstances of the accident before responding further,” the leaders of Leuven said on Friday in a press release.
