Becker creditor angry: “Time in prison too short” – Sportmix

Tennis icon Boris Becker throws banknotes out of a villa window in a new commercial. This upsets his creditors.

Three months after his release from prison, Becker made a new advertising deal in addition to his TV job as a tennis expert at Eurosport. The 55-year-old will advertise for a window company in the future.

The new commercial is to be seen on television for the first time on Saturday during the sports show. Becker drives up in a classy vintage car, enters a chic villa and then throws fake banknotes out of the window. The advertising slogan: “Don’t throw your money out the window!”

Ex-coach to Thiem: “Stop self-deception”

The advertising agency responsible relies on irony. The tennis icon Becker, who won six Grand Slam titles and was number 1 in the world for twelve weeks, was most recently behind bars because of a private bankruptcy and false statements.

“Money is and was important to me, but the spot is of course satire and self-irony,” says Becker in “Bild” about his first advertising contract after his prison sentence. “It’s the first deal in my new life.”

The Becker creditors, however, find the advertising anything but funny. Becker was sentenced to two and a half years in prison in London in 2022 for bankruptcy crimes. In December, Becker was released after around seven months, while the bankruptcy continues.

“Becker’s time in prison was clearly too short. He lives in his own world, hides reality – like before imprisonment,” says one of the creditors to “Bild”.

Becker does not reveal what he earns with the advertising deal. But his motives are: “It’s true that I threw money out of the window. But then it was important to me to make fun of myself to recommend to the younger generation not to copy me.”
