Los Cañeros del Este announce the hiring of Miguel Volcán Sánchez as their new coach for the upcoming season of the National Basketball League (LNB).
Sánchez, an Italian-Uruguayan national, will have his first experience directing in the best basketball league in the Dominican Republic, preceded by a vast successful record in other leagues in the Americas and the Caribbean.
The new Cañero coach has extensive experience in the leagues of Uruguay, Mexico, Brazil, Italy, Peru and Argentina where in the latter he has won 300 victories and two championships in the national tournament of that country.
In his native Uruguay, he has managed several clubs, standing out in the 2018-2019 season when he was champion with Aguada, earning an invitation to the South American Champions League. That same year he was elected manager of La Liga, one of the three times he has won such a distinction.
“It is a luxury for the Dominican Republic, the league and for Cañeros del Este to have a leader like Miguel Volcán; he will turn our franchise around, so the fans can be confident in the quality of this manager that we are announcing today,” informed the general manager of the team José (Cheo) Suarez.
Miguel Volcán Sánchez comes from being the coach of the Uruguayan National Club in the 2021-2022 season where he managed to lead the team to the Play-Inn and reach a place in the South American Champions League.
He scouted with the Miami Heat in the NBA and does a wonderful job as a FIBA coaching instructor, delivering specialized basketball workshops and clinics around the world.
“It is a privilege to have a coach with the experience, ability and competitive spirit of Miguel Volcán who has expressed his intention to come and do great things with Cañeros del Este” said the club’s new sports manager Rafael Faneyte.
Miguel Volcán Sánchez He has also directed in Mexico, Chile and Puerto Rico, this last opportunity with the role of advisor to the Carolina Giants in the world-renowned Puerto Rico Superior Basketball (BSN).
The National Basketball League will begin in May and the management of Cañeros del Este is making the necessary moves to reach its third crown in the team’s history.
