Badminton Xàtiva wins two bronzes at the Spanish Para Badminton International in Toledo

The athlete from Club Badminton Xàtiva Thomas Wandschneider continues to expand his medal table and in the second test of the international Para Badminton calendar, the Spanish Para Badminton International, played from March 1 to 5 in Toledo, won two bronze medals.

The player of German origin who plays for the Setabense club participated in the WH1 singles event and in the WH1-WH2 doubles event, along with his teammate Rick Cornell. Individually, Thomas started as the head of the number 2 series and achieved first place in his group, group B, after a tough match against the Japanese Keita Nishimura, whom he beat 18-21, 21-19 and 22-20 after 1 hour and 20 minutes of game. In the quarterfinals he easily beat the Italian Yuri Ferrigno and in the semifinal he lost to the Japanese Hiroshi Murayama by a double 21-15, which gave Thomas the bronze.

In the men’s doubles, Thomas and Rick started as the number 2 seeds and advanced to the group stage after easily beating their rivals. In the semifinals, the German couple lost to the Koreans Choi Jungma and Kim Jung Jun by 22-20, 19-21 and 21-14, in a very even match that lasted 1 hour and 12 minutes. Thomas and Rick thus added another bronze to their impressive record.

Children’s Category Games Day

Badminton Xàtiva also attended the fourth and last day of the School Games of the Valencian Community in the children’s category, held last Saturday in the capital of the Costera. The day decided the first six classified in each of the tests that next May will play the Autonomous School Championship. The Francisco Ballester pavilion brought together 65 athletes from 10 clubs and municipal schools of the Valencian Community. The Setabenses achieved 55% victories in individual events and 32% in doublesand the presence of various athletes was ensured at the regional meeting in May.

upcoming competitions

CB Xàtiva will play next Saturday the TTR tournament in the Under-13, Under-17 and Absolute categories that will take place in El Campello and in which 114 players from 19 different clubs will participate. It will also be present at the Autonomous Championship in the Under-11, Under-15 and Absolute categories, which will bring together 68 athletes from 13 clubs in the Valencian Community.
