Attention, the second Sáblíková is growing. The Czech star’s sister won the championship of her category

Three-time Olympic champion Martina Sáblíková currently plans to compete until 2026, when she wants to end her career after the Games in Italy. However, the Sáblíková surname would not have disappeared from the results lists even after that, her sister Barbora, who is 23 years younger, is also involved in speed skating. And successfully, this year she won the championship of the Czech Republic in her age category.

“Ségra trains with dad. At the club, they do speed skating, but also other activities. It’s a bit like school in a game. But when we meet at a training camp in Inzell or Collalb and she asks, I try to advise her on what to do.” described the Czech star.

“And she is very grateful for that. For the fact that she will now be thirteen, speed skating has been taking her for about two years and still hasn’t let go,” added Sáblíková, who has an incredible 146 medals from top events.

The sister, who lives with her father and his second wife, played speed skating as a child, running around the table.

“I’m probably a role model for a lot of kids, but this is my sister, so I look at it a little differently. When she writes to me before races and wishes me good luck, I don’t want to disappoint her. And of course I’d like to help her and I’d like her to be good “, pointed out the Czech phenomenon of long distances.

Due to their different schedules, they rarely meet at races. The last time Sáblíková personally supported her sister was last season.

“In December, however, I watched her races in Tomaszów through a web camera from Calgary, where we were at the festival,” she revealed. She then advised her nurse over the phone. “And then she tried it in Inzell and improved her figure by about three seconds. She listens and wants, which I really like about her,” said Sáblíková.

At the same time, the twenty-one-time world champion is well aware that the sister with the surname Sáblíková does not have it easy on speed skating ovals and attracts attention.

“Maybe now she rode a 15-year-old for the first time and she didn’t ride it badly considering how old she is, so they told her it’s in her genes. She’ll probably carry it for a long time, and if she’s successful, then her entire sports career,” he suspects Sáblíková.

Although the two sisters are far apart in age and performance, they sometimes train together. Last time in January in Italy.

“She tried jumping training with us, although of course she jumped less and for a shorter time. She said she enjoyed it, and then they included it in the training at home, which is great,” recounted the more famous Sáblíková.

“And we agreed that it would be nice if she joined us for a training session. I also attended a training session with the elders when I was thirteen,” she added.

Although Sáblíková made her debut at the European Championships as a fifteen-year-old, she is not yet thinking about starting together with her sister at a bigger event.

“It would probably be possible in Inzell at the international races, although we would probably have to ask the organizers to let us ride together. But for a full-fledged start, I would probably have to ride as long as Pechi,” she pointed to the German legend Claudia Pechsteinová, who still competes in 51 years old.

In the future, however, Sáblíková could train her sister. “It’s in the stars. I’ll always give her advice when she needs it. But I don’t know yet which way I’ll go. In any case, I’ll help her at any time and pass on my experience,” Sáblíková promised.

He spends more time with his siblings, especially in the summer between seasons. “I live about five kilometers from ségra, which is great. In the summer, for example, we meet at the roller skating rink,” she smiled.
