ATP Santiago de Chile: Dominic Thiem concedes next defeat against local hero

In Chile he got off to a disastrous start, giving up his first service straight to zero and losing the first set in just 30 minutes.

In the second set, Thiem made the duel closer, but still couldn’t get a single break point. After 1:44 hours, Garin used his second match point. “It was a very tough game. I think we both played well in the second set. I started very aggressively in the first set. I made shots from the start and I think that was the difference,” said the local hero the match.

Thiem has only won one of his seven games on the tour this year. At the Australian Open in Melbourne, where he was still in the final in 2020, he also had no chance in the first round against Andrey Rublev (3: 6, 4: 6, 2: 6).
