Aspen – Super-G | The success and the small globe of the super-G for Marco Odermatt

After Aleksander Aamodt Kilde on Saturday in the downhill, it’s the turn of his great rival Marco Odermatt to do a double blow. The Swiss won this Sunday the Super-G of Aspen in the United States, thereby formalizing the gain of the small globe of the discipline. Despite numerous faults that he compensated for with his crazy intensity, Odermatt beat the German Andreas Sander (+ 0”05), mounted on the first podium of his career, and the inevitable Kilde (+ 0”34 ). First Frenchman, Nils Allegre took 9th place.

Odermatt, perfection on the slope

The Super-Gs follow and resemble each other this winter in the World Cup. And there is a constant, whose name is Marco Odermatt. The Swiss has still not left the podium in the discipline this year and added a 5th victory to his bag on American snow. A little behind on the sliding section, fortunately shorter than downhill, the downhill world champion then cut the wall, as usual. Despite a slight imbalance at the start of the slope, and a few extensions due to his exceptional commitment, the Swiss still enjoyed himself.

Recovering more than three tenths from the competition in this section, this is where Odermatt made the difference before carving out a final fast but tricky section, which surprised a lot of skiers. Not the Swiss who offers himself a 9th victory this season, the second on the North American continent with the Super-G of Lake Louise at the start of winter. But we came very close to a huge surprise with 2nd place for Andreas Sander, just five hundredths from the feat. But the German will be largely satisfied with this first podium in the World Cup, just ahead of Aleksander Aamodt Kilde (+ 0”34), who lost far too much on the bottom.

Such a cruel mad ending…

The French did not particularly shine on the American track but they still place a representative in the top 10. Author of a very solid first part of the race (+ 0”01 at 2nd inter), Nils Allegre may regret to have scored on the bottom of the route but still grabs a nice 9th place (+ 0”76). Long in the top 10, Alexis Pinturault was finally ejected (11th, + 0”81) after a completely crazy end of the race.

Alternately, bibs 51, 52 and 53 entered the top 15, with in particular the exceptional 6th place (+ 0”65) of Liechtensteiner Nico Gauer, for his first points in Super-G, and the beautiful 14th place for Erik Arvidsson (+0”96). Performances that cost the French team dearly since these unexpected performances finally deprive Soldeu Blaise Giezendanner of the finals, only 29th this Sunday. And it’s the cursed of the weekend, Adrian Smiseth Sejersted (still out) who will go to Andorra. Cruel.
