Alpine skiing: Odermatt flies over the debates in the 1st round of the giant of Soldeu

Marco Odermatt has Hermann Maier’s men’s record in his sights. The Nidwalden delivered yet another demonstration during the first round of the giant Soldeu World Cup finals. Loïc Meillard (5th at 1″61) and Gino Caviezel (9th at 1″87) ranked in the top-10. The second round is to follow from 11:50 am on RTS2.

The best skier on the planet, who has 1942 points on his clock and therefore needs a 3rd place to erase the 2000 points accumulated by Hermann Maier in 1999/2000, was 1”09 ahead of his runner-up Alexis Pinturault. However, he was 0”21 behind the Frenchman at the first intermediate.

Respectively 3rd and 4th in this initial round, the Norwegians Alexander Steen Olsen and Lucas Braathen conceded 1”12 and 1”14 on Marco Odermatt. Only 8 skiers lost less than 2 seconds on the Olympic champion and world champion in the discipline…

Set back at Kranjska Gora last weekend in the discipline (7th and 11th), Loïc Meillard is in 5th place. The skier from Hérémence finds himself 1”61 behind his leader, but less than half a second from a 15th World Cup podium. Gino Caviezel is 9th at 1”87, while Thomas Tumler is 16th at 2”69.
