Carlos Alcaraz is back at the top of the ATP world rankings

The starting position before the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Indian Wells was clear: Should Carlos Alcaraz win the title, the 19-year-old Spaniard would push Novak Djokovic off the top of the ATP world rankings. Djokovic is still not eligible to enter the United States. And Alcaraz was up to the task, winning in Tennis Paradise without losing a set. And ended Daniil Medvedev’s winning streak after 19 games.

However, the Russian also improved by one place in the charts and is currently number five. Followed by Félix Auger-Aliassime, who achieved a new career high with sixth place. Auger-Aliassime failed in the quarterfinals of Indian Wells at Alcaraz. Taylor Fritz, on the other hand, dropped from five to ten: The American was unable to defend his title in the Californian desert. And: Rafael Nadal, number 13, is not in the top ten for the first time in ages. To be precise, it’s been 934 (!) weeks, so just under 18 years, that the Spaniard has been consistently among the top ten players in the world.

Djokovic leads the race

Alexander Zverev lost a place, but as number 15 in the world he is by far the best German. Oscar Otte is next in position 85. Dominic Thiem lost a few places and is currently listed as number 106.

In the Race to Turin, the annual ranking, Djokovic continues to lead, who has already won the title in Adelaide this year, especially at the Australian Open. They are followed by Medvedev and Alcaraz. Jannik Sinner, who is currently seventh, would also qualify for the big annual final in November.
