Carlos Alcarazwho was crowned this Sunday as champion of Indian Wells and that he recovered the number one in the world, he showed himself very happy and proud for the title in what is known as the “fifth Grand Slam” and thanked his team for their “incredible work” for supporting him at all times.

“Many thanks for everything. I know that I am very young and that I have many things to learn and that it is not easy (…) but thank you for all your work”, said the Spaniard on the track as soon as he won the tournament in the Californian desert.

Alcaraz crushed Russian Daniil Medvedev, who had won 19 consecutive games and three consecutive tournaments, 6-3 and 6-2 in one hour and 11 minutes in the Indian Wells final.

In addition to the number one in the ATP and the third Masters 1000 of his career (after Miami and Madrid), the Murcian takes 1.26 million dollars prize for winning the first Masters 1000 of the season.

After a formidable tennis lesson in the final, Alcaraz also congratulated Medvedev for a great run that ended this afternoon.

“This tournament is very special from the first person to the last person who works here. I feel really amazing playing here (…). This tournament is something special and I’m looking forward to playing here again next year,” he said.

Medvedev: “Alcaraz is the number one in the world in a deserved way”

The Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev, who was overwhelmed this Sunday by Carlos Alcaraz in the final of Indian Wells, He assured that the Spaniard deserves “one hundred percent” to be the new number one in the world ranking.

“Carlos is the number one in the world in a deserved way. He earned more points than anyone else in the last 52 weeks and that’s how the ranking works.” He said at a press conference to a question about whether he is “a real number one” given that Novak Djokovic, now dethroned by Alcaraz, cannot play in the US because he is not vaccinated against the coronavirus.

“Of course it’s unfortunate that Novak can’t play every tournament and I’m sure we would all love to see him play (…). But it is what it is. I don’t know, Rafa Nadal has been injured for a while. We can also say: ‘If Rafa weren’t injured he would be number one’. Well, we can’t tell because he’s injured. And it’s the same with Novak,” he exemplified.

As soon as the game was over, the Russian congratulated the Spaniard on court for all the successes he has achieved and that will come in the future and for being “probably the most respectful person on the circuit.”

“I think you say hello to 300 people every day,” he joked.

“I tried, I tried (in the final). I don’t like to lose but unfortunately it was quite easy…”continued pulling irony.

Already in the press conference, Medvedev acknowledged the superiority of the Murcian and pointed out that he also did not have his best day.

“He’s playing well. I think he served well today. His serve and volley were good.”he claimed.

“I would love to play him on another surface, maybe a little faster, to see if I can do better. But yeah, I don’t know if it was his game that didn’t allow me to play at my best level or if for whatever reason I didn’t. Mentally I was prepared for the game (…). He knew he had a tough rival on the other side. He played well. Good left in good times, some good winners to break my serve. There’s not much more to add,” she added.
