A Finnish billionaire in the running to buy Manchester Utd – Football

(ANSA) – ROME, MARCH 24 – An elderly and unknown Finnish billionaire is also appearing in the race to buy Manchester United. His name is Thomas Zilliacus and he is a former head of former Finnish phone giant Nokia who left in the 90s to set up Mobile FutureWorks (a hi-tech investment fund) in Singapore, where he resides. The company is not listed on the stock exchange and is active in online payment services, esports, online video and real estate in over twenty countries across Asia, Africa and Europe. Zilliacus is 69 years old: he can hardly overcome the competition from Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Al Thani’s Qatar Islamic Bank and that of British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe who have offered just over 5 billion pounds. Zilliacus presented an offer for 50% of the shares, leaving the remainder to be financed by Red Devils fans through a company created for this purpose.
