Thomas Tuchel, who is without a club, is currently spending his free time at the Australian Open in Melbourne. The 49-year-old sat in the stands of the Rod Laver Arena during the men’s tennis semi-final match between Greek winner Stefanos Tsitsipas and Karen Khachanov from Russia.
The former Champions League winner with Chelsea also watched the women’s semi-final the day before between Kazakhstan’s Wimbledon winner Jelena Rybakina and Viktoria Asarenka from Belarus.
“It was a great match,” said Tuchel to the “Süddeutsche Zeitung” as he left the stadium. He also revealed that he was generally a big tennis fan: “This is my fourth Grand Slam, I’ve been to all four tournaments now.”
At the match a day later, Tuchel was also spotted by fans. There he appeared with a cap and sunglasses and looked visibly happy.
Tuchel’s former club Chelsea is in a crisis
His ex-club FC Chelsea cannot be happy at the moment. The Blues are currently stuck in a bit of a swamp under Graham Potter. In their last six games, Chelsea have only won once and been eliminated in both domestic cups. In the league, the club is stuck in the no man’s land of the table: the gap to fourth-placed Manchester United is ten points. That should also explain why many fans want the German to return to Stamford Bridge.
