When Kehl scored for Freiburg in Dortmund – VfB historically bad: That brings the 19th matchday

On Friday, FC Augsburg will open the 19th match day with the game against Leverkusen and could make you forget a historical statistic just as VfB Stuttgart did against Bremen the following day. Also in focus: the top games in Dortmund and Wolfsburg and the first Hertha game after Fredi Bobic.

Augsburg’s negative mark against Leverkusen

FC Augsburg has fond memories of the first leg in the BayArena in Leverkusen. The 2-1 win was the first victory the Fuggerstadt team celebrated in their 23rd duel with the Werkself. Conversely, this means that Augsburg is still waiting for a win against Leverkusen at home (0/4/7). No other team has ever hosted another so many times without winning once.

Freiburg uniqueness in Dortmund’s fortress

SC Freiburg has not won more than once in Dortmund. In October 2001 it was a 2-0 win that sent the sports club back to Breisgau with three points. Among the goalscorers back then: Sebastian Kehl, now sporting director at BVB, who scored 40 out of a possible 42 points in the last 14 home games against Freiburg.

Hertha BSC is experiencing turbulent days again. After the separation from Fredi Bobic and the return of Benjamin Weber and Andreas “Zecke” Neuendorf, the Berliners are guests at Eintracht Frankfurt. After the winter break, the SBU hasn’t really started to roll in terms of play, but they still scored five points from the first three games. Frankfurt only lost one of the last eight duels against Hertha anyway – the home game of the previous season (1: 2).

Undefeated Cologne against RB

7-1 against Bremen, 1-1 in Munich, 0-0 against Schalke: 1. FC Köln are still unbeaten this year. Does this series still exist even if the duel with Leipzig is behind Steffen Baumgart’s eleven? Cologne only won two of eleven games against RB.

Hoffenheim’s dry spell – and the Bochum omen

Hoffenheim haven’t won a single one of their last eight Bundesliga games. But, and that could encourage TSG: In the preliminary round, the Kraichgauer met VfL Bochum after ten games without a win and landed the liberating blow with a 3:2.

The VfB flood and the reunion with Werder

In the past 30 home games, VfB Stuttgart have not come away without conceding a goal – a negative series that has never existed in almost 60 years of the Bundesliga. The Swabians last kept a clean sheet in April 2021, and now they meet their opponents again: Werder Bremen, against whom Stuttgart has been unbeaten for six games. A good omen to end the flood of goals now?

Schalke with fresh courage to Mönchengladbach

The 0-0 draw against Cologne gave Schalke renewed courage, and the Royal Blues now have to deal with Borussia Mönchengladbach, an opponent against whom they have only won one of the last ten games. In order to clinch their third win of the season at Borussia Park, Schalke also relies on Eder Balanta, who came to Gelsenkirchen on Deadline Day.

After the Isco errors: Union meets Mainz

Despite the Isco errors, Union Berlin bought the ticket for the quarter-finals in the DFB Cup on Tuesday. Now the Irons are meeting Mainz 05, aiming for the fifth win in the fifth competitive game of the year and relying on their home strength: Union only lost two of the most recent 41 games in front of their home crowd.

Does Bayern’s 1-1 series against Wolfsburg end?

1-1 in Leipzig, 1-1 against Cologne, 1-1 against Frankfurt: FC Bayern did not win the first three Bundesliga games of the year, now the Munich team conclude the 19th matchday with a game against VfL Wolfsburg and ex-coach Niko Kovac. Joao Cancelo could make his Bundesliga debut. After six wins in a row, the Lower Saxony have recently suffered two setbacks (1-2 against Werder Bremen and in the DFB Cup against Union Berlin). The Bayern balance sheet can not exactly encourage Wolfsburg: VfL only won four of 51 duels, most recently there were 15 attempts without a win.
