Austria’s ex-national player Volkan Kahraman was shot dead in Vienna on the street. The crime was preceded by a dispute.

This act shocked the whole of Austria: the former national soccer player Volkan Kahraman (three international matches for the ÖFB team) was killed on Wednesday. As several media and the police report, the 43-year-old was shot dead in a dispute in Vienna on the street.

Dispute escalated in a Viennese café

The police announced further details about the incident: Accordingly, an argument between Kahraman and an acquaintance got completely out of hand. After leaving a café in the Simmering district, the 46-year-old acquaintance is said to have suddenly pulled out a gun and shot the ex-national player. After that he committed suicide.

Mourning for the well-known footballer is great across the country. Former clubs have also said goodbye to the former midfielder. Kahraman learned to play football at Austria Wien, but was then also under contract in Turkey and the Netherlands.
