VfB on the Ahamada deal: “We cannot ignore financial arguments”

In the middle of the relegation battle, VfB Stuttgart let one of their best players go with Naouirou Ahamada. Sports director Fabian Wohlgemuth explains the deal.

For the Swabians, Ahamada’s move to Crystal Palace in the Premier League is undoubtedly a good deal – at least financially. The midfielder came to the Neckar from Juventus Turin in 2021 for around 1.5 million euros and is now moving to England for a reported twelve million euros. The bottom line is ten million euros in profit for the clammy Stuttgart. The Frenchman has signed a contract with his new club until 2026.

Questions remain, however, because Bruno Labbadia made no secret of the fact that he did not like the 20-year-old’s departure from a sporting point of view. Ahamada has appeared in 17 league games, scoring two goals and scoring two more.

“Naouirou Ahamada has developed very positively since moving to VfB. His achievements have not gone unnoticed by other clubs either, so that he and we now have a concrete offer for a change,” Wohlgemuth is quoted as saying by the club. “From a sporting point of view, we would have liked to have kept Naoui at VfB. Ultimately, however, we as a club are in a situation where we cannot ignore financial arguments. These were ultimately the decisive factor in us deciding for have decided on an immediate transfer.”

Stuttgart already spent part of the money on Monday and signed two new ones. Genki Haraguchi (Union Berlin) and Gil Dias (Benfica Lisbon) have been signed for around one million euros each. The duo already played in the DFB-Pokal at SC Paderborn on Tuesday evening and were successful. Joker Gil Dias initiated the turnaround for entering the quarter-finals with his equalizer, which is well worth seeing.
