UD Ibiza draw goalless in Lugo

UD Ibiza has added a goalless draw against CD Lugo and has added a point that is of little use to them and that continues to leave them far from remaining, in a match in which Lucas Alcaraz’s team has gone from more to less and in which the Galician team has deserved more by having the best and clearest opportunities to score.

The duel between the two bottom teams of LaLiga SmartBank started with intensity and with both teams measuring the distances closely and very pending to cut any dangerous action from the rival. Thus, in the first ten minutes the defenses prevailed over the forwards and the game was played without notable chances or dangerous arrivals.

However, in the 13th minute, in a lateral free kick, the first clear opportunity for UD Ibiza arrived, when Martín Pascual rose to head the ball after taking out a lateral free kick, although his header, tame and unspecified, was stopped without problems by the local goalkeeper, who took possession of the ball before Grillo could touch the ball.

Just a minute later it was Pape Diop who once again brought danger to the Lugo goal with a header that went over the crossbar.

Lugo did not take long to answer, creating the clearest chance of the first half. It was in the 22nd minute, when Barreiro hooked a strong shot arriving from behind at the far post to an intentional cross from the right, but Fuzato, very attentive, put in a saving hand to deflect the shot into a corner.

Escobar, in minute 25, tried his luck from outside the area, in a second play after a throw-in, but his shot went high and wide.

At minute 39, Grillo was shown yellow after being forced to cut a dangerous foul on the edge of the front line against Lugo, in which Moyano was already looking for the Ibizan goal. Barreiro was in charge of executing the direct free kick, but, luckily for UD Ibiza, he did it loosely and badly, crashing the leather into the barrier, which cleared the danger without major consequences.

However, shortly before the end of the first half, it could have been difficult for UD Ibiza, who saw how an offside action by Lugo was reviewed by VAR, as a sky-blue defender touched the ball with his hand, in the extension of the previous play. It had no major consequences, after any other decision was ruled out by the referee.

After the intermission, UD Ibiza lost prominence against a Lugo who turned to attack from the first minutes and had several truly dangerous actions to have changed the course of the game. In minute 48, Moyano intentionally warned with a shot from outside the area, which Fuzato saved safely. Five minutes later, Moyano once again had the opportunity to make it 1-0, but his header, taking advantage of a good cross from the right of Avilés, crashed into the crossbar of the Ibizan goal, when it was already being sung the goal in the stands of Anxo Carro.

Lugo continued to press on in attack and in the 53rd minute, Avilés once again placed a poisoned cross in the sky-blue area, although on this occasion there was no finisher that came to connect his service.

Shortly after, in minute 58, Fuzato had to go out to clear acrobatically with his head in front of his area to keep the ball away in a serious incursion with a center into the space of the local team, which did not stop insisting in search of the goal.

Lucas Alcaraz’s men, more concerned with defending the 0-0 score than generating danger, suffered in the second half, in which they were barely able to get close to the rival goal with isolated balls and without much precision in finishing their arrivals . The clearest came from Bogusz, in minute 68, after serving from a direct free kick, after a foul committed on Ekain, whose shot went very close to the post.

From there to the end, little more than standing out in attack by the Ibizans, while Lugo had several opportunities to have won. In the 82nd minute, Moyano, after a shot at Bogusz and several cuts, went into the area and faced the sky-blue goal, but his shot was cleared, fortunately for the islanders, when it seemed that the goal was almost done.

And already, in injury time, in the 94th minute, in the last play of the match, Señé, with a header, had the victory for the Lugo team, but his shot was providentially saved by a Fuzato who saved a point ‘in extremis’ Insufficient for Lucas Alcaraz’s team, who continue as bottom team in the Second Division with 18 points, nine shy of salvation, a position held by Racing Santander with 27 points to their credit.
