U20 coach temporarily takes over Brazil’s national team

After speculation that Carlo Ancelotti could be hired as the new coach, the Brazilian national soccer team will be temporarily taken over by Ramon Menezes. Menezes, who won the South American championship with Brazil’s U20s on Sunday, will be the coach of the Selecao’s first friendly of the new year, the Brazilian federation (CBF) announced on Wednesday. According to the information, the test against World Cup semi-finalists Morocco will take place in Tangier on March 25th.

The 50-year-old Menezes used to play under the name Ramon Hubner in the German Bundesliga at Bayer Leverkusen. The previous national coach Tite had signed a termination agreement in January. His early end at the post had already been determined before the quarter-finals of the record world champion at the World Cup in Qatar.

Last week, Brazil’s federation denied a report that it had received verbal confirmation from Ancelotti. The Italian’s contract with Champions League winners Real Madrid runs until the end of June 2024.
