Thomas Huyghe’s cycling manager: “Oliver Naesen was the first name on my magazine” | cycling manager

Television producer and cycling beast Thomas Huyghe builds his team in the Sporza Cycling Manager all around Oliver Naesen. “Last year I regretted having Oliver in my team in the classics and in the Tour. But he’s such a cool guy.”

No one believes more in Oliver Naesen than Thomas Huyghe.

“I always finish last in my mini-competitions because I make Oliver Naesen my super captain every time.”

“But Naesen was again the first name on my magazine this year. Why? When I interview him, it’s always so cool.”

“The more people drop Oliver, the more I will be there for him,” says Huyghe, who chose “Olivier Naessens” as the team name. “Because no one pronounces his name correctly.”

Oliver Naesen is the central figure in Thomas Huyghe’s team.

“I don’t take Girly, purely out of hipster behavior”

For the rest, Huyghe does not want to fall into the same trap as last year. “Then I made a mistake by not taking all the favourites.”

“Now I will take Wout van Aert, Mathieu van der Poel, Tadej Pogacar and Tom Pidcock from the start.”

Notably absent is Biniam Girmay: “I had him in my team last year when he was still cheap”, Huyghe pats himself on the chest.

“But now I find it too easy to take it again. Pure hipster behavior.”

Last year I made the mistake of not taking all the favourites.

No one from Soudal-Quick Step secured a spot in Huyghe’s team.

“I don’t believe in Julian Alaphilippe. Remco Evenepoel will come in anyway when Liège-Bastogne-Liège approaches.”

The British Samuel Watson is a no-brainer: “I had already written it down before it was promoted in the Kopman podcast. But is it really that good?”
