The story of Correa ‘Scoring Goals’ from the Bench When Atletico Was Detained by Getafe

Madrid

An unusual story occurred when Atletico Madrid were held to a 1-1 draw by Getafe in the Spanish League continued. The goal for the host was ‘created’ when the goalscorer was replaced by another player. How come?

Relax first, this unique story does not break any rules. In the match that took place at Cívitas Metropolitano, Sunday (5/2/2023) early morning WIB, Atletico took the lead in the 60th minute through Angel Correa’s shot.

The Argentine striker finished off the rebound from Getafe goalkeeper, David Soria, who had previously blocked Thomas Lemar’s long-range shot. However, the goal was immediately disallowed by referee Antonio Mateu because Correa was deemed to have been offside.

Correa was disappointed but less than a minute later he walked off as the substitution board indicated he would be replaced by Yannick Carrasco. While the Video Assistant Referee reviewed the goal, he returned to the bench.

VAR footage later showed that Correa was not offside in the process of creating the goal, so the referee declared Atletico’s goal legitimate. The Los Colchoneros players immediately gathered on the bench, approaching Correa.

Unfortunate for the hosts, they failed to score additional goals after that. It was Getafe who managed to equalize in the 83rd minute through an Enes Unal penalty, which was obtained due to Saul Niguez’s handball in the forbidden box.

Score 1-1 lasted until the end. An additional point keeps Atletico in fourth place in the LaLiga standings with 35 points, while Getafe has also not moved from the relegation zone, in 19th position with 18 points to be precise.
